Graham Wainman - GW Plumbing and Heating Services
Graham Wainman has been in the plumbing and heating industry for some 30 years, but it was not until the last year that he set up by himself.
The 50 year old from Hessle High Road spent some 14 years working in the caravan industry where his two sons were also employed before they all lost their jobs, Graham as a senior manager, in 2008, who may one day return to the industry if the right offer came his way.
Graham left school and went to work for Rosen’s shoes, but it was a factory job and not a trade, so he went back to college at the age of 22 at Chamberlain Road and then worked for Neville tucker Heating for 11 years before moving into the caravan industry.
“It has long been on my mind to go self-employed. I have taken various courses such as book-keeping and accountancy, and most recently took a couse in power-flushing which is the new big thing, as it can save households up to 25% on there bills by cleaning out the central heating system and make it work more efficiently.”
Graham’s business also offers bathroom-fitting, kitchen-fitting, tiling, and decorating. He has also invested in a website which has attracted custom from East and North Yorkshire. The Hull Enterprise Partnership through the Goodwin Development Trust has helped with applications to the city’s Acorn Fund for equipment to carry out power-flushing, and a laptop to help Graham with his bid to be paperless with his accounts.
“I am particularly targeting the Power Flushing service to plumbers so they can sub-contract me, so if this service is of interest to plumbers please contact me, as the work can be expensive when carried out through big firms and it’s an added expense which plumbers may not consider when fitting new boilers.”
As Graham’s business grows, he hopes to employ more staff. It was his son, also a plumber, who put Graham onto the road of Power Flushing for a unique selling point in the first place and it is the lead Graham probably needed.
